Macossa-Tambara Ecosystem

Lower-Zambezi River Basin, Mozambique

The Macossa-Tambara Ecosystem - the combined concessions known as C9 & C13 - form the western sector of the Greater Gorongosa-Marromeu Ecosystem. 

Macossa-Tambara is home to 40,000+ indigenous people whose communities depend on natural resources for their day-to-day survival. our program area spans 3 districts in Manica Province - Guro, Tambara, and Macossa - And 2 districts in Sofala Province - Gorongosa and Maringue.

The 25,000km2 complex of protected areas in this critical region -known as the GREATER GORONGOSA MARROMEU ECOSYSTEM - includes the Macossa-Tambara Ecosystem to the west bordering with Zimbabwe, the Lower-Zambezi/Marromeu Complex to the north-east, and Gorongosa National Park to the south-east.
