This week we launched Opening Doors in the Macossa-Tambara Ecosystem thanks to the deep hospitality and generosity of Gagadze & Miteme Communities & @stillstanding_sikunisiku and Edison Saranga.

Miteme KULOTA means Miteme DREAMS. And here we all - little ones and upward - have big dreams!

@stillstanding_sikunisiku programs cultivate youth skills-building and learning, collaboration and team work, confidence and visibility, honoring our cultural roots, and of course a LOT of joy too.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible instructors, Grupo Cultural de Gagadze. And all the teachers and community leaders who make this possible. It is a privilege to be here in this precious ecosystem, and to learn and share alongside you.

These SUPER CUTE mammals surrounding our camp are the elusive Yellow Spotted Bush Hyrax, or “M’bira” in the local language. They are most closely related to elephants and sirenians (manatees and dugongs). They forage on leaves and fruits, and are abundant in Macossa-Tambara across the many rocky outcrops and inselbergs where they set up territories. Cute, right??? #hyraxes #africanmammals #biodiversity

Our team brings a decade+ of deep expertise in pangolin recovery to central Mozambique. We founded Mozambique’s first rehabilitation and release center for pangolins rescued from trafficking, and remain committed to establishing new sanctuary areas for the Temminck species. Pangolin’s - just like lions and other carnivorous species - are highly territorial, and robust populations require large landscapes just like the Macossa-Tambara Ecosystem. The beauty of any walk across this ecosystem is just how many signs of pangolins there are.

Hilltop safari tents, private bathrooms w. hot showers, full kitchen, electricity and wifi and expanses of wilderness as far as you can see. Here we soar with Bateleurs and walk among lions!

From Mt Panda to Mt Gorongosa and Mt Birgue, the view over the Miombo forests and riverine landscape is so spectacular!

And so it begins… a ceremony under the Malambe tree, and a day filled with celebration with the Gagadze community of Tambara. These ceremonies are not only where permission from the ancestors is granted to work on traditional lands, but also transparent and open spaces where leaders and community members and partners share aspirations, challenges and commitments. #associacaonaturamocambique
